My name is Vanessa and I’m a freelance illustrator from Ottawa, Canada. Nice to meet you!

I’ve only been working professionally for a few years, but it has already been quite a journey getting here! I first studied visual arts for a couple of years, then switched to film animation. After graduating in 2015, I ended up in mobile games and worked for 3 years at Budge studios, a renowned children’s apps publisher. I had the opportunity to work with some big children’s brands such as My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Transformers Rescue Bots, and that is where I developed my love for children’s content. Then in the summer of 2018 I left my permanent position, moved to Ottawa and started working as a full-time freelance illustrator.

It was a little bit of a challenge at first, but I love it! The work is so varied and my clients include mobile companies, magazines, educational markets and even a scrapbooking shop. I signed with my agent Beehive Illustration at the end of fall 2018 and I’m now focusing more children’s books work. My first book, “Aux couleurs de Petit Panda” with Editions Heritage, is slated for publication in Spring 2019.

My next goal? I’m always looking for new exciting opportunities and I want to focus especially on children illustration for picture books, board books, puzzles and activities, stickers, etc. Children’s content is my happy place! I love what Auzou is doing and would LOVE to work with them. I also would like to illustrate a story for Storytime magazine one day.

What else? I adore animated movies, and my favorites are Tomm Moore’s movies The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea. My favorite food is chicken quesadillas, yummm! I love video games but I really suck at them, to an embarrassing degree, so I’ve resorted to watching a lot of Let’s Plays on Youtube. I’m also engaged to a charming Bulgarian gentleman!
