Hi! My name is Vanessa and I'm a children's book illustrator from Ottawa, Canada. It's nice to meet you!
I started out studying Film Animation and went on to work for 3 years at Budge studios, a renowned children’s apps publisher. I had the opportunity to work with some big children’s brands such as My Little Pony, Strawberry Shortcake and Transformers Rescue Bots, and that is where I developed my love for children’s content.
In 2018, I left my permanent position and started working as a full-time freelance illustrator. Since then I have illustrated 6 children's books along with a variety of other work in educational and editorial markets. I am represented internationally by my wonderful agent, Astound Us.
My next goal? I’m always looking for exciting new opportunities and I want to focus especially on picture books. Children’s content is my happy place! One day I would love to illustrate a widely distributed book for a top 5 publisher.
"Vanessa is an incredibly talented and easy illustrator to work with. The book we worked on together turned out so cute and her characters brought the entire project to life. All feedback was taken with stride and deadlines were never missed, making her an ideal artist to work with."
Brittany Vibbert, Senior Art Director at Sourcebooks
"Vanessa is a pleasure to work with and did a fantastic job. As well as meeting all our deadlines, she consistently provided high quality artwork and was great at composition. She also responded really well to our feedback and any changes we asked for, so the whole project ran very smoothly."
Hannah Campling, Editor at Igloo Books
"Vanessa agreed to illustrate my first book and during the next weeks, she guided me through her creative process with grace, patience and a genuine commitment to reproducing the real essence of my ideas. The final result is an extraordinary creation - full of wonderful designs and soft colors and a completed book that I am very proud to have authored. I am grateful for her unique skills and her personal support throughout this project and I look forward to working with her again in the future."
